We present the results of repeated observations of the H2O line at 22.2 GHz towards a sample of 54 Herbig Ae/Be stars. Maser emission has been detected in three sources only, V645 Cyg, LkHa± 234, and BD+40°4124, the latter being a first time detection. The main properties of BD+40°4124 and of the associated maser are discussed. With the detection of BD+40°4124, the number of Herbig Ae/Be stars with H2O masers amounts to a total of 7, with a detection rate of 10%. This figure is intermediate between that typical of low-mass stars, 1%, and of massive stars, 30%. In addition, 6 out of the 7 known masers are also CO outflow sources, strongly suggesting a common physical origin for the two phenomena. |
