OH/IR star candidates were selected on the basis of their IRAS colors and searched for OH maser emission at 1612, 1665, and 1667 MHZ. Of the 48 candidates, 16 were known OH/IR stars, and there were nine new detections of OH emission. OH was not detected in 23 objects, these being identified as nine carbon stars, eight emission-line stars, two young stellar objects, and four Mira-like stars. These findings imply that the frequency of binary OH/IR-like objects is not as large as has been suggested. JHKL magnitudes were obtained for 22 stars. The near- and far-infrared color criteria for identifying OH/IR stars are discussed. |
Comments:
Spectral type was set to:
""S"", where only one peak was found.
""D"", where two peaks were found.
Velocity resolution: 0.90 km/s
Upper limit for non-detections: 1 and 2 Jy (3σ)
Only OH/IR stars and non-masing Mira variables are included.
